The book is not just a history book. It’s also a geographical work. I didn’t realise how local geography affected the early development of Plympton; or how flood patterns influenced settlement patterns. It is also a work of sociology, examining how different social trends combined with demographic changes over the years to give rise to the Plympton of today.

Pupils, Punters and Polo Ponies at Plympton, apart from providing entertaining reading, will become a resource in understanding the ongoing history of both Plympton and its High School. Lynn M.F. Arnold, Minister of Education, Minister for Technology
